When are tryouts for RAD?

Tryouts will take place in September of 2008. Visit this link to get the exact dates and Register Online.

How much does the season cost?

Registration fees for the Competitive teams in 2008-09 season will be $1500. Athletes trying out will be given information that will show the breakdown of the fees. A parent meeting will take place at the tryouts on Spetmeber 20th (one for each of the 3 sessions) that will also include information about the breakdown of the fees.

What does the registration fee include?

Registration fees do not cover the cost of transportation to and from tournaments, or accomodations at tournaments. Fees cover the cost of gym rentals, uniforms, entry fees into OVA tournaments - essentially all expenses for teams to practice from the middle of October to the middle of May. There may be additional costs if teams travel to additional tournaments. This will be clearly communicated by the coach at the beginning of the season at a Parent meeting.

Where are the tournaments held?

Tournaments are organized by the Ontario Volleyball Association. They provide the locations based upon the clubs who submit hosting bids for tournamants throughout the year. Once the OVA chooses the tournament locations they inform the hosting club and post the information on their website. Sometimes the OVA does not receive enough bids in time and tournaments are organized late (less than 2 weeks notice).

Where are the practices held?

Practices are held in schools thoughout Central, South, and West Ottawa. Once we receive confirmation from all of our schools that we have a contract with them, we have a coaches meeting to decide which team gets which practice locations. This is typically performed once we have received all of the confirmations from schools and the school boards. The practice times and locations will be communicated to athletes after the first tryout.

How many games/practices are there per week?

Each team is given a minimum of 2 practice nights per week and at least one physical training sesson for a total of a minimum of 3 sessions per week. Typically, teams do not pracitce on fridays or 2 evenings in a row. Practices are 2 hours in length and may have additional training added through the R.A.D. program. Physical training may be held on a weekend day or during a week night, the exact schedule will be communicated once the team has been selected.
