2006 Ontario Summer Games

By: Region 6 Volleyball

The 2006 Ontario Summer Games will be held in Ottawa from Tuesday, August 9 to Saturday, August 12. The volleyball competition in the Games will consist of both beach and indoor volleyball. The female and male beach volleyball competitions will be for the 18U age category (athletes born in 1988 or later) and will be staged at Mooney’s Bay Beach in Mooney’s Bay Park.

Region 6 has been allocated two teams (2 athletes per team) by the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA) for direct entry into each of the female and male beach volleyball competitions. Region 6 teams that are currently in the top 6 ranking of the 18U OVA beach tour will also receive automatic entry into the competitions. All selected athletes will also be part of an OVA pre-Games training camp that will run from Monday, August 7 to Wednesday, August 9, also at Mooney’s Bay Beach.

As part of the process to identify and evaluate potential athletes that could represent Region 6 in the beach volleyball competition at the Games, Region 6 has partnered with Max Volley in order to use the upcoming Ottawa Satellite #1 tournament for this purpose. This event is scheduled for Saturday, June 24 starting at 9:00am at Max Volley’s St. Joseph’s location at 1510 St. Joseph’s Blvd. in Ottawa. Although this tournament is not the only athlete assessment criteria being utilized, it is highly recommended that athletes interested in being considered for the Region 6 beach volleyball teams enter this tournament and preferably in the 18U age category.
