16U Boys Grey Winning at the Right Time

By: Chris Smeaton

The 16U Boys team Grey is beginning to show the fruits of their labor. The team has been working hard in practice and training hard in the gym and are starting to show significant improvements in their game.

This is no ordinary 16U team. The majority of the athletes are of the 15U age level but are playing up a level because of their competitiveness and overall development potential. The entire team is in it's first year of Club volleyball and after some early adjustments to the speed of the game and the height of the net, the team has now caught up to its competition and it looking to continue its progress up the rankings in the OVA 16U division.

Mark Priddle is an athletic left handed setter from Redemer High School. Mark has been working hard on his footwork and speed to the ball on the first pass.

Evan Munro, from Lisgar Collegiate is a multi-purpose player who plays Setter and Left side positions. Evan bring passion for the sport of volleyball and a great attitude. He has vastly improved his defense and passing.

Erick Dow, from Russel High School, is a middle blocker who has improved by leaps and bounds this year. A recent injury may sideline Erick for the next few weeks, but he is anxious to get back on the court.

Gabe Aaron, from Glebe Collegiate, is another well rounded player. Gabe is all business when he gets in the gym and works extremely hard to improve all aspects of his game.

Jeff Zhong, from Lisgar Collegiate, is a quiet player off the court but lets his play speak for itself. Jeff poses a tough serve and is also strong on service reception.

Mozafar Abdoli, from Glashan PS, is a very multidimensional player. He can either be the best hitter or the best setter on the court at any given time. Mozafar is very competitive and a very good teammate. He continues to work on his setting skills and continues to improve is all areas of the game.

Joseph Joseph, from Glebe Collegiate, is a very good passer and defender. Joseph has a great platform that is part of his success in passing. With continued work on his footwork Joseph will become one of the top passers in Ontario.

Shane Perch, from Lisgar Collegiate, is a hard hitting left-handed right side player. Shane has worked hard at improving his hitting and serving. With more attention to his forearm and overhead passing he will become a more compete player.

The 16U Boys Grey most recent tournament the team finished 7th out of 10 teams but played, by far, their best volleyball of the year. The Grey's also had the services of team Black's Connor Snider who played the entire day in the middle when Erick Dow got injured.

Up next for Team Grey is an exhibition tournament in Kingston in mid march, an exhibition tournament in Gatineau in early April and then 16U provincials in mid April.
