The day started out early. The snow was coming down and the roads were slippery, but we made it to the beautiful RMC Sports Complex safely.
Our first match was against a Jr. High School team from Perth. We got off to a slow start. We were down 12-4 when our game was interrupted by the convener of the tournament. She asked us if we could possibly make 2 teams out of our 17 players. This was a fun tournament so we were able to have all of our team mates competing. When the next whistle sounded we were 2 smaller teams, I will call them Roos 1 and Roos 2. The Roos 2 team was asked to play on another court, in another pool, maybe we will see them in the playoffs! The bonus was we could cheer them on when we were not playing, and they could do the same. Our first game continued with the score being 12-4 for Perth. The game went back and forth with good plays on both sides of the court. We were able to get some points back while trying some new plays taught to us by our coaches at practice. However, the lead was too great for us to complete a comeback. We lost the game. The second was a different story. After some strong defense, tough serves and some well placed attacks, we were able to force a third game by winning
25-16. The third game started out strong for us. We served well which allowed us to be the first to 8 points and be in control of the game. The other team played well and tied the game at 8. The coach called a timeout to slow Perth’s momentum. We were able to play smart and win a tough third game 15-11.
Our second match was against FSS, another secondary school. Game two had us down 9-2 because of a tough server. We were able to come back and close the gap to 2 points. The rallies went back and fourth until we were tied at 19. The taller, more experienced team played smart late in the game, which allowed them to win 25-21. Our second game started out with some good serve reception, allowing our setters to set some great sets for our hitters. Good defense kept us in the game against this big hitting junior H.S. team. We lost the second game 25-22.
Our third match was against the Russell Junior High T-Wolves. Our tough serving team got off to a good start. We were up 12-3, when the other team made some good plays that started to get them back in the game. Good team play on our part made us fight to win this game. We had some long rallies against this team, and we won 25-15. Throughout the second game, the score remained close. A great block late in the game, gave us a chance to serve for the win. We won this game 25-22.
The fourth match was the semi-final match against LaSalle Junior H.S. Some good play on our part had us up 5-2 early in the game. Scrambled plays, followed by good plays allowed us to keep our lead. We worked hard to get ahead 24-14. Some tough serving and some good play by LaSalle had us wondering how we could lose this game 26-24. In the second game a good run of plays gave us an early lead. The LaSalle team came on strong, and tied the game at 9. The game continued back and fourth, eventually the Junior H.S team beat us 25-19.
It was a good day. It was a fun tournament and we were able to play against some older, more experienced teams. We were also able to try and use the things that the coaches were teaching us at practice.
Thanks to the coaches for entering us in this great tournament.
Thank you to the parents, for cheering us on all day.
Go Roos Go!!

We all got up bright and early, Saturday, January 20th to head to RMC in Kingston. Even though it was tough driving through the snowstorm, we all made it there, ready for an exciting day of volleyball.
We played very well as a team. We were able to get most of our serves over and we did a pretty good job at communicating, which led to some victories. We weren’t intimidated of the hard serves they put over the nets and we were able to set up some attacks.
This time we played using the 4-2 rotation, so it was a change from our last tournament but we adjusted very quickly and we remembered where we were supposed to be.
We improved a lot from our last tournament but there is still room to improve. We have to work on not being intimidated, calling and coming off the net on free balls, and working together and being a team. We are all excited for our next tournament in Kingston on February 16th.
It was a fun and tiring day but a good experience all the same.
