14U Girls Silver Medal at 1st Tournament

By: Ellie Beadle

Saturday’s “friendly” tournament at Gisele Lalonde turned out to be a great day with many wonderful surprises for our new team. Our day started out at 7:30 Saturday morning and finished at 10:30 that night. Seeing as we have only known each other for 2 months we thought this tournament would turn out be a tough start.
Throughout the day the team was surprised at how close the team bonded and how well we played together. To start our day off we won three out of our four round-robin\matches and although we lost the last set we were still first in our pool.
Then came play-offs in the afternoon - our team felt pretty good going into playoffs but still nervous to see the other teams from the other pools. To start our play-off round we played the last place team in our pool, which meant if we lost we were done the tournament. Unfortunately the team we played realized they needed to win this important game before we did and in the first set it was 24-12 for the opposing team. We played every ball we could and served every ball and never gave up and our team spirit kept us up to win that game 26-24. We played two more play-off matches, and won both, which brought us to the gold medal round. Unfortunately we lost our last match against Samuel Genest. After 14 hours of constant cheering and keeping our team spirit up our new team came out winning silver in our first tournament.
We were all surprised and happy that we had done so well and knew that it had brought our team closer together – we hope that it will continue throughout the season to come. This tournament showed coaches, other teams and our own team that giving up isn’t an option for this year’s 14U team.
